Join us and up to 400 LGBTQ ball fans as we watch the Celts dribble all over the Charlotte Hornets at the Garden on Friday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. Not only will it be gay, it'll be a bargain. Our $39 tickets are an average of 30% off regular price.

Get your tickets below. Don't wait too long—last year, our section sold out through the early access list in less than nine hours. Our big, gay cheering squad will after-party at The Greatest Bar, cover free. Game on, ballers.

Abs. Thongs. A guy from a boy band. Gay enough for ya?

Make it your new year's resolution to patronize the fine artsmake that fine partswith a trip to an all-male revue! We're taking over Men of the Strip, the sexy, dancy show started by that guy from the boy band 98 Degrees. Join the takeover at Boston's Wilbur Theatre on Saturday, January 3 at 7 p.m.

It may be designed for straight moms and single ladies, but we think the show is right up homo alley. These hips don't lie (see video to the right). Imagine the reaction of the rest of the audience as they hear our LGBTQ section cheering for more man meat. It's gonna be a hip-thrusting good time. Reach out and touch your tickets here.

The Fortune Feimster Takeover

Friday, March 28, 10pm: Fortune is bringing down the house, and TWC is coming out to see her.

Ticket sales have ended!

You probably know Fortune Feimster from “Chelsea Lately” with Chelsea Handler. And if you don't, you should. Even Margaret Cho says so. And now's your chance to see her stand-up performance live in Boston on Friday, March 28 at Laugh Boston (425 Summer St.). Plus you'll get to meet your fellow TWCers before the show in one of the three bars in the building. We may have to do a bar crawl to choose which one. We'll get back to you on that. #toughchoices.

Check Fortune out on Conan, and pick up a ticket (normally $25 - that's 20% off!). You can thank us later.

When you arrive at Laugh Boston, just pick up your tickets at Will Call and head inside - the theater is general admission. (Yes, we know you have to put in a mailing address, but you won't be mailed the tickets - that's just a consequence of using the same system for our pineapple stand.)

Want to know more? Here's a little bio:

Fortune began making a name for herself in the standup world after being made a paid regular at the World Famous Comedy Store and being selected as one of the “New Faces” at the renowned Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. Soon she made her national TV debut on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” where she finished as a semi-finalist.

During this time, she was flown out twice to New York to audition in front of Lorne Michaels for “Saturday Night Live,” but it would be Chelsea Handler who would give Fortune her next big platform. Fortune has now been a full-time writer and performer on the E! Network’s popular show, “Chelsea Lately,” for the last three years, and is a main cast member on their scripted series “After Lately.”

Most recently Fortune opened for Chelsea at Caesar’s Palace in Windsor and she performed in front of 15,000 people as part of Dave Chappelle and Flight of the Conchord’s “Oddball Fest.” Her standup was also featured on HBO Canada’s “Funny As Hell” and she’ll be appearing in an upcoming episode of Comedy Central’s storytelling show “This Is Not Happening.” She can currently be seen in the Jim Belushi movie, “The Secret Lives of Dorks,” which was just released in theaters.

BSO Holiday Pops

Giving "festive" a whole new meaning

BSO Holiday Pops

Giving "festive" a whole new meaning

The Boston Symphony Orchestra thinks their Holiday Pops concert is pretty festive. There's a sing-along, Santa Claus shows up, and some iridescent snowflakes fall from the sky. Well, we're going to show them how the holidays were meant to be celebrated. Join us, and a legion of 100 LGBTQs, for the Holiday Pops concert like you've never seen it. Monday, December 16, 8pm

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
Go here. Select the number of seats you want. Pay for them. On 12/16 pick up your tickets at the box office. Sit. Enjoy. Be gay.

TICKET INFO:
Tickets for TWC members are $37.50 (that's 50% off from the regular $75 ticket price) and there are only 100 of them so here's a little nudge to buy quickly. Once you buy your tickets, the nice people over at the Boston Symphony Orchestra will hold onto them until the night of the performance, when you can pick them up at the box office.

SEATING:
Per usual, we got a big chunk of tickets all nestled closely together so TWC will be holiday pop-ing en masse. While we can't guarantee that you'll be situated directly next to your bestie, all 100 seats are in the same section, so you'll certainly be nearby. To increase the likelihood of sitting next to your friends, we'd encourage you to pick a leader and buy tickets in one big chunk.

And because we're super fancy, the BSO has given us table seating (with 5 people at each table) on the left hand side of the ground floor of the theater. That means you get table service and can eat and drink your little heart out. It is, after all, the holigays, which means calories don't count. To get a better sense of exactly where we'll be, take a look at the seating chart below.

AFTER PARTY:
And because it would be rude of us not to throw an after party, we'll be heading to a nearby bar after the show to continue the festivities. Location will be announced to ticket holders the week before.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, we're doing the NBA, TWC-style. Join us as we watch the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks battle it out to take over the basketball court. The game starts at 8pm, but we'll meet beforehand for a pre-party, and we've been invited to a VIP shoot-out before the game begins.

When you hit the "Order Now" button to buy your ticket, you'll be asked for an optional group name. You'll have three options:

  1. If you're flying solo, just leave the field blank and we'll seat you with the Corps and your new bffs.
  2. If you're the first of your friends to buy, you can create a new group name and let your friends know.
  3. If one of your friends has already created a group, just choose it from the drop-down menu and we'll seat you together.

Once all of the tickets are in, we'll sort all the groups and make sure you're where you want to be! All seats will be in the balcony.

If you have any questions, just shoot Preston and Wes, your Boston Community Managers, an email at weston@thewelcomingcommittee.com.

Tickets are sold out.

GQB: This Friday

We're taking the Fenway by storm

GQB: This Friday

We're taking the Fenway by storm

On the first Friday of every month, Guerrilla Queer Bar takes one straight bar and turns it gay. Your friends are probably already going, so shouldn't you?

This Friday, November 1, at 9pm, we're taking over Game On (82 Lansdowne St., Boston). We’re getting as close to the Sox’ glory as we can. Let’s teach Fenway how to celebrate. And if you really just can’t contain your excitement, you can hang with the Corps at Boston Beer Works (61 Brookline Ave.) beginning at 8pm. Sign up below to find out more.

GQB: A Little History

BOB2012Logo.jpg

Boston's Guerrilla Queer Bar launched in 2007 with a simple question: why shouldn't gays be able to experience every bar in Boston the same comfortable way that straight people do? So, on the first Friday of every month, we would get a few friends together and head to a bar. Pretty soon the gay gossip networks were twittering and hundreds of LGBTQs were showing up. And then, in 2011, Boston Magazine chose us as the best gay bar in Boston. And in 2012, they chose us again. The funny thing is that we're still not a bar.

The Muppet Christmas Carol Takeover

What says "holidays" more than A Christmas Carol? The Muppets, #duh

On Wednesday, December 17 at 7 p.m., we're taking over the Coolidge Corner Theatre for a private screening of The Muppet Christmas Carol. Now you can experience the fuzz-filled, Gonzo-narrated classic on the big screen alongside a couple hundred LGBTQs. This is clearly the most important cultural event of the holiday season. Sorry, Mariah.

Plus, we’re helping you detox from the mall madness with adult beverages. Deep Eddy Vodka will be serving up free cocktail realness inside the theater. More deets below. Gettin’ Piggy with it.

Details:

  • The movie will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17. It lasts about 90 minutes.
  • The Coolidge Corner Theatre is at 290 Harvard Street, Brookline
  • We'll continue the party at Hops N Scotch, a two minute walk from the theater.
  • The theater has open seating, and you'll be checked in at the door. Bring your ID.

Starring:

  • The Great Gonzo as Charles Dickens
  • Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit
  • Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim Cratchit
  • Ma Bear as Ma Fozziwig
  • Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit
  • Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig
  • Beaker as himself
  • The Swedish Chef as himself
  • ...And basically all of the other muppets. Because it's The Muppet Christmas Carol, obvi.

Margaret Cho Takeover

On November 6th, Margaret Cho gets the audience she always wanted.

Welcome aboard

On November 6th, Margaret Cho is taking the stage at The Wilbur Theater and because it would be borderline unacceptable for us not to be there, we've secured a block of seats to make the show a whole lot gayer.

To join your TWC comrades for the show:

1. Go here
2. Enter offer code “TAKEOVER” when prompted
3. Choose your seats (those available are highlight in blue)
4. Start pre-gaming to your favorite clips

Once you've secured your tickets, be on the lookout for an email coming from us about a pre-party. Rumor has it the Theater District is just bursting with bars that are ripe for the taking.

The Gardner Museum Takeover

The Gardner Museum Takeover

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum takeover. One night in Boston. One fancy museum. Hundreds of gays.

Welcome aboard:

TWC is throwing its second museum takeover at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum on October 17th to allow art to be experienced the way it was originally intended: A museum full of gays sipping cocktails while staring at the art and fellow patrons with equal amounts of passion.

On the third Thursday of each month, ISGM holds their After Hours event that comes stocked with a full lineup of talks and performances, a scavenger hunt, studio arts activities and two cash bars. And for those of you already well versed in the controversial life of Isabella, you know that some of her closest friends were likely of the homosexual persuasion. How fitting then, that we takeover this one night and make it ours. Mrs. Gardner can finally rest easy. The gays are coming en masse.

Last year nearly 300 TWC members showed up to the Museum Takeover. Here's a glimpse of what it looked like. And for those of you who were in attendance, we have confirmation that there will be a second bar available to all of us.

TWC members also get a discount (tix are normally $15). Because you're agayzing.

The Evening Schedule:

OCTOBER 17 • PORTRAIT / PORTRAYAL
Play with portraits as the museum glows with music, conversation, and artful experiences.

SHORT AND SWEET – 15 Minute Talks
Gardner 101: Saint Michael - 6:30 & 7:30 PM
PALACE – Tapestry Room, second floor
Join Gardner staffer Courtney Allen for an introduction to Mrs. Gardner, her collection, and the museum today.

Portrait Talk: Queen Mary - 7 & 8 PM
PALACE – Dutch Room, second floor
Chat with Meghan Quigley, education intern, about the fierce Mary I, Queen of England.

THROUGHOUT THE EVENING
5:30-9pm Monks Garden by Moonlight (WEATHER PERMITTING)
OUTSIDE – Monks Garden
As Isabella Stewart Gardner wrote in 1908, “I don’t have time to read, because I trot about with the gardeners. And the little monk’s garden at Fenway Court is very dear too.” Trot about and explore the newly redesigned garden.

5:30-9pm  Cash Bar
PALACE - Spanish Cloister, first floor
Courtyard Bar, Specialty Drink: The Gondolier
Try this ginger sparkling wine cocktail, or stick with the standards: beer, wine & sparkling water.

6-8:30pm  Sketched Out
PALACE - Tapestry Room
A sketchy, visual twist on the classic game of telephone.

6-8:30pm  Studio Artivity - Frame Yourself
NEW WING - Education Studio, first floor
Ready for your portrait? Craft a unique pair of sunglasses and dazzle the camera.

6-8:30pm  Gallery Game - Face Time
PALACE - Throughout the galleries
A picturesque romp through the collection. Pick up your game booklet by the Courtyard.

HGSC at the Gardner Museum

HGSC at the Gardner Museum

Welcome aboard:

TWC is throwing its second museum takeover at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum on October 17th to allow art to be experienced the way it was originally intended: A museum full of gay people sipping cocktails while staring at the art and fellow patrons with equal amounts of passion.

Speed Dating

TWC’s reinvention of speed dating for gay men

Speed Dating

TWC’s reinvention of speed dating for gay men

Welcome to TWC's reinvention of speed dating for gay men:

At traditional speed dating, you sit in lines, meet 8 men, talk to them for 10 minutes apiece, and leave with a name tag.

At TWC, you stand in circles, talk to 18 different men, one-on-one, for four minutes a piece and leave with a list of possible love matches AND people you want to be friends with.

How it works:

1. Show up / Check in / Grab a drink / Mingle with all of the other speed daters
2. Talk to 6 men, one on one, for 4 minutes each (24 minutes in total) while everyone else is doing the same
3. Take a 10 minute break and mingle with all of the speed daters in the room
4. Repeat step 2 two more times, meeting an additional 12 men
5. Stay and dance with your new love-interests and best friends

GQB: This Friday

We're taking the Fenway by storm

GQB: This Friday

We're taking the Fenway by storm

On the first Friday of every month, Guerrilla Queer Bar takes one straight bar and turns it gay. Your friends are probably already going, so shouldn't you?

This Friday, November 1, at 9pm, we're taking over a bar in the Fenway. We won’t say that the World Series had anything to do with our decision. We also won’t say that it didn’t. As always, the area is announced the Monday before, and the venue is announced on Thursday. Sign up below to find out where we're headed this Friday.

TWC Bar Crawl

You wish college had been this much fun

TWC Bar Crawl

You wish college had been this much fun

Cambridge, December 14, 2-6:30pm

This is the bar crawl you always wish you had in your college days. Pick up your drinking shoes, gather the troops and get ready to put those frat boys to shame. We'll be hitting 4 bars in Cambridge over the course of one afternoon and end at a dance spot where you can continue the after party. The concept is pretty simple, but if you want to know what it will look like, check out these pictures from last year's JP vs. Somerville and Fanueil Hall bar crawls.

What's in store? Outside of sheer awesomeness with over 150 of your new friends at 4 different bars, we'll start you off with your first cocktail, throw in some free food at bar #3 and end it all with one big dance party. And for those of you who are brand new to the Uber car service, we're giving you $20 towards your first ride to or from the crawl.

Questions or queries? Send 'em to ashley@thewelcomingcommittee.com.

The Hasty Pudding Theatricals at Harvard have put together their 166th production, putting a twist on college musicals with a completely original script and score. We think it's about time to see what these kids are made of. On Friday, February 21, join 150 LGBTQs as we discover what all the fuss (and fussy petticoats) is about.

Early sign-ups have closed. Tickets will be on sale soon. Any questions? Let us know.

From the website:

Something’s rotten in the state of England! Lady of the evening, Mona Lott, has been found dead at Victorian Secrets, a brothel run by no-nonsense madam Harriet Upinthere. Everyone wants to know who did it, but as long as dim-witted cop Billy Club is mounting the investigation, they’re not going to find out. Is creepy professor Hannibal Lecture innocent, or is he Jekyll-and-Hydeing his crimes? Did crackpot scientist Ella Mental have a hand in the murder, or does she just have a hand preserved in a jar? Will ex-missionary Sharon Secrets spill the beans, or will she just get herself to a nunnery? One thing’s for certain—chimney sweep Colby Inmahlungs needs to get that cough checked out. Slum’s the word in the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 166th production!

On the 3rd Saturday of every month, hundreds of lesbians takeover an unsuspecting bar in Boston for Flannel Takeover Company (FTC), an event hosted by us, The Welcoming Committee. Tell your friends. Rally the troops. Don your warpaint. This is going to be good. Don’t believe us? Just ask Autostraddle.

And no, flannel is not required.

Oh, and it doesn't stop at FTC. We've got plenty of other takeovers happening in Boston, from bar crawls to ski trips and sports games to museums.

Welcome to TWC

A movement of LGBTQ people who want to experience with world in outrageous comfort.

Eventually we thought, "Why just bars? Shouldn't LGBTQ people be able to experience the whole city in the same way? And why just Boston?" So in 2012 we re-launched as The Welcoming Committee, a nationwide community of LGBTQ people ready to experience the entire world in an outrageously comfortable way. We have two goals: to build our community, through events that bring together a hugely diverse group of people in ways that allow them to actually meet each other, and to take that community basically everywhere. Check out the sort of events we run, and get on the list to find out where we're going next.

CULTURE and SPORTS
Museums, concerts, shows, sports games: we think all of these are a lot more fun (and comfortable) with hundreds of new and old friends in tow.

NIGHTLIFE
We started in bars and are still going strong. GQB happens the first Friday of every month, and our lesbian-oriented Flannel Takeover Company happens on third Saturdays (including March 15!).

TRAVEL
We head to iconic destinations and bring the community with us. TWC members get to experience casinos, ski mountains, beach resorts, and more with all the fun of our local takeovers.

The Brooklyn Boulders Takeover

TWC is climbing to new heights.

Brooklyn Boulders recently decided to take over Boston, and pretty soon thereafter we decided to take over Brooklyn Boulders. Join us, and tons of LGBTQs, for an evening of climbing (and camaraderie) on Saturday, April 12, at 6pm. Whether you're a seasoned belayer or usually just take the escalator, Brooklyn Boulders has climbing for all levels.

BKBS bills itself as "Greater Boston’s largest rock-climbing facility meets community center." Well, we're bringing our communities together for one night only. Early access sign-ups are closed, but tickets will be on sale soon. Any questions? Just ask.

The 2015 Hasty Pudding Takeover

The 2015 Hasty Pudding Takeover

Harvard's Hasty Pudding Theatricals is unveiling its 167th production, "¡Oops!...Madrid It Again!", putting a ludicrous twist on college musicals with a completely original script and score. We think it's about time to see what these kids are made of, so we've got discounted tickets. On Friday, February 20, join 150 LGBTQs as we discover what all the fuss (and fussy petticoats) is about. You'll get to enjoy the same show that premiered for Chris Pratt and Amy Poehler. Also, men in drag.

Last year we sold out the entire theater... and we might just do it again. ¡Oops! And to make sure we get Friday night right, we'll be after-partying at a nearby bar where the beer will flow like wine.

Details:

  • Time: The show is at 7pm on Friday, February 20.
  • Location: Farkas Hall (12 Holyoke St., Cambridge)
  • Tickets: You can pick up your tickets at Will Call before the show. The theater is open seating, so arrive early to get a good seat with your friends.
  • Post-party: Since it's Friday night, we'll continue the party at The Hong Kong after the show until... whenever.

From the website:

¡Dios mío! The reign in Spain is in trouble. Spain's beloved but senile king Juan Footinthegrave should find a husband for his beautiful daughter Carmen Saveme, but he's far more interested in getting his arthritic hands on the Fountain of Youth before he kicks the bucket. With the king’s health waning, evil Queen Cruella Seville and Cardinal Marco de Devil are scheming to claim the throne and launch an inquisition. Will explorer Donkey Hoté save the day, or make an ass out of himself? Will German suitor Hans Offmybeer get Carmen’s hand, or will he just get a hangover? Will hunky matador Javier Waywithme see some action in bed, or just in the bullfighting ring? Everyone is living la vida loca in HPT's 167th production, ¡Oops!...Madrid It Again!

The Jennifer Holliday Takeover

Original Dreamgirl Jennifer Holliday takes to the stage, and TWC takes it over.

Ready to dream? On June 3, TWC is headed to Symphony Hall to welcome Jennifer Holliday back to Boston. You'll remember her as the original Effie in Dreamgirls on Broadway, which earned her both a Tony Award (Best Actress in a Musical) and a Grammy (Best R&B Female Vocalist). Since then, her career has taken her to the concert hall, recording studio, television, and back to the theater. Join Jennifer, TWC, and the Boston Pops, for a soulful evening of song. As always, we'll get together for an after-party after the concert.

TWC will be at table seating in the Orchestra section, with tickets 50% off. Early access is now closed but tickets will be on sale soon!
