Welcome to TWC’s Winter Wonderland trip! From January 22-24, we’ll be descending on Split Rock Resort and Jack Frost & Big Boulder mountains for three days and two gaytastic nights of skiing, boarding, tubing, water sliding, hot tubbing, dancing, drinking, and snow angel making. Here’s what you may be wondering:

What time are we leaving and from where?

  • NEW YORK: Buses leave from the Marriott Marquis on the 45th St side at 5:00pm sharp on Friday, January 22. You'll be back in the Big Apple by 7:30pm on Sunday.

  • PHILLY: Plan to be at 30th Street Station at this spot, on Friday, January 22 at 5:00pm. You'll be back in Philly around 7:30pm on Sunday.

  • DC:  Buses will depart from 1000 10th Street, NW (as close as we can get to the Metro Station stop) at 4:00pm on Friday, January 22. You'll be back in DC around 8:30pm on Sunday.

Is there enough room on the buses for my equipment and bags?

Yes. These are charter buses with a lot of storage space underneath. You won’t be able to squish your big suitcases in the seating area, but we'll have no trouble fitting everything in the storage compartments below.

Should I bring food on the bus?

We recommend eating dinner (or at least some snacks) before or on the bus, so you don’t get too hangry. The resort will have a few options for meals when you arrive, including dinner service at the Lake View Tavern and Split Rock Grille, as well as grab-n-go sandwiches and pizza at the Galleria Market.

Where is The Lodge in relation to the mountain, water park, and everything else?

Check out this map!

What is the shuttle schedule to and from the mountains?

Shuttles will run to the mountains at 8, 9, and 10am both mornings, as well as at 2pm on Saturday. Shuttles will return from the mountains to Split Rock at 4pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.

What do I do with my gear on Sunday after I check out at 11am and want to go to the mountain?

A few of our staff rooms at Split Rock Resort will remain open so you can drop off your things for the day on Sunday.

I want to purchased discounted tickets in advance. Please help!

Sure thing! Click here to access discounted lift tickets, equipment rental, group lessons, & water park passes. These items are on sale through January 12.

When will I get my pre-ordered tickets?

When you arrive at the resort, check in with Gena for your packet of tickets, snacks, TWC swag, and more!

What will the snow conditions be like?

Check out the mountain’s snow report to see the latest information on which trails, lifts, and terrain parks are currently open.

Is anyone going tubing?!

Yes! A group of TWC travelers will be heading to tubing at Jack Frost on the 10am shuttle on Saturday. Tubing is $25 for 3 hours and is available both days, at both mountains.

What about all the other activities? Hot tubs, water park, bowling, arcade, movie theatre, etc...

Glad you asked! There are a LOT of options right at the resort, or at the mountains nearby. Check out the full list, details and hours below. Even more details coming soon!

In the Galleria

Split Rock Grill & Rock Lounge: Located in the lobby of the main resort, this is continental dining at its best, with great views of the surrounding wilderness. Breakfast is served from 7:30am to 11:00am, dinner 5pm to 10pm, and drinks at Rock Lounge through 11pm Friday, 12am Saturday

In the Lodge

Lake View TavernThe fancier option for dinner! Hours: 5pm - 9pm Friday, 10pm close on Saturday, located upstairs from the Thirsty Moose.

Thirsty Moose: Your favorite nightlife destination! Featuring live music and DJs on the weekends, views overlooking the lake, TVs, and pool tables. Hours: 12pm - 1am.

I just wanna dance! That’s happening right?

So do we and yes, yes, yes! On Friday and Saturday nights, we’re turning The Thirsty Moose Saloon into a pop-up LGBTQ dance party. Live entertainment, DJ, brews, and the dance floor await! And the best part is, the Thirsty Moose is right in the lodge where all 100+ TWC travelers are staying, so you can just head upstairs when you’re ready to call it a night. #NoCoatCheck

Are we going to Apres Ski?

Are unicorns magic? Yes. We’ve put together an entire schedule for you that will include apres-ski time, pre-game spots, and even a US Women’s Soccer watching party! Scroll all the way down to see when and where everything is taking place.

I don’t know what to pack.

Everyone does things differently, but here’s an idea for first-timers:

  • If you’re going skiing or boarding, you’ll probably want three layers: long underwear and a light turtleneck as a base layer, a thick fleece sweater and pants for the mid-layer, and snow pants and jacket to cover everything up.

  • Don’t forget wool/fleece socks, gloves, goggles, and of course, underwear.

  • When you’re not on the slopes, you’ll want a hat and boots to stomp around. You’ll also want something to wear out to the bar on Friday and Saturday nights!

  • And, perhaps most importantly, don’t get caught without a bathing suit for the hot tub!

2. How do we communicate with other travelers on the trip?

We’ve got that covered! TWC uses a group communication app called GroupMe, which you can download here. The week of the trip, we’ll send out an invitation to the group itself. Here you’ll be able to post selfies by the hot tub, find other TWCers for meals, coordinate mountain runs, and more. Heads up: while this communications platform is magical, it loves to suck up phone batteries. If you need to turn notifications off temporarily, here's a blog post that explains how to do that.

Just email Gena.
